Ruby Gemstone - July Birthstone

The king of gemstones. Ruby has commanded more per carat than any other colored stone in the world. Its color — a deep, saturated red with a hint of blue — is so specific, so coveted, that the gem trade gave it its own name: pigeon’s blood. There is red, and then there is ruby red.

THE STONE

Ruby is the red variety of corundum — the same mineral family as sapphire. Its color comes from chromium, which also causes it to fluoresce in sunlight, making fine rubies appear to glow from within.

The most prized rubies come from Burma (Myanmar), where the combination of geology and light produces the legendary pigeon’s blood color: a pure, vibrant red with just enough blue to make it sing.

Ruby has been a symbol of passion, protection, and power across cultures for thousands of years. Ancient warriors set rubies in their armor. Medieval Europeans believed rubies guaranteed health, wisdom, and success in love.

THE COLLECTION

You’ll find ruby earrings and necklaces that honor the stone’s extraordinary depth of color — set in oxidized silver and gold fill, often paired with sapphire, garnet, and labradorite for pieces that feel rich, saturated, and alive.

Many pieces are one of a kind, chosen for the intensity and purity of their red.
